French 75

About

The French 75 is one of the most celebratory cocktails ever created — a sparkling, elegant blend of gin, fresh lemon juice, simple syrup, and Champagne that packs more punch than its refined appearance suggests. Named after the powerful French 75mm field gun used in World War I (because it hits that hard), the drink was popularized at Harry's New York Bar in Paris during the 1920s and has never gone out of fashion. Light, bubbly, and impeccably balanced between citrus tartness and effervescent sweetness, it's the ideal toast for any occasion — from New Year's Eve to a Tuesday evening that simply demands something special.

Ingredients

0.75 oz Lemon Juice
1.5 oz Gin
1 slice Lemon
0.5 oz Simple Syrup
2 oz Champagne

Instructions

  1. Combine gin, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a chilled Champagne flute.
  4. Top with chilled Champagne.
  5. Garnish with a lemon twist and serve immediately.
