About

The Sidecar is a timeless Prohibition-era classic that showcases Cognac at its finest. Equal parts spirit, citrus, and orange liqueur create a drink that's bright, boozy, and elegantly balanced. Said to have been invented in Paris or London around World War I, the Sidecar has remained a benchmark of cocktail craft for over a century. A sugared rim is optional but traditional — it softens the citrus edge and adds a pleasant textural contrast with each sip.

Ingredients

0.75 oz Lemon Juice
2 oz Cognac
0.75 oz Cointreau

Instructions

  1. If desired, rub a lemon wedge around the rim of a chilled coupe and dip in sugar to coat.
  2. Combine Cognac, Cointreau, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds until well chilled.
  4. Fine-strain into the prepared coupe.
  5. Garnish with a lemon twist, expressing the oils over the surface before dropping it in.
