About

The Lemon Drop Shot is a bar staple born in the 1970s that straddles the line between shot and cocktail — a bright, tart, vodka-based shooter served ice-cold with a sugar-rimmed glass and a sugar-dipped lemon wedge chaser. Invented at Henry Africa's bar in San Francisco, it was designed to make vodka fun and approachable, and it succeeded brilliantly. The combination of citrus vodka, triple sec, fresh lemon juice, and a touch of sweetener is sharp, clean, and dangerously easy to drink. Chase it with the sugared lemon wedge and the sour hits you first, then the sweetness blooms — it's one of the most cleverly designed two-bite experiences in the bar world.

Ingredients

1.5 oz Vodka
0.5 oz Lemon Juice
0.5 oz Triple Sec
1 slice Lemon
0.25 oz Simple Syrup

Instructions

  1. Rim a shot glass with sugar by running a lemon wedge around the rim and dipping it in sugar.
  2. Combine vodka, triple sec, fresh lemon juice, and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake vigorously for 10 seconds.
  4. Strain into the sugar-rimmed shot glass.
  5. Serve with a sugar-dipped lemon slice on the side as the chaser.
