About

The Rusty Nail is Scotland's most famous two-ingredient cocktail — a simple marriage of Scotch whisky and Drambuie (the honey-herb Scotch liqueur) that's greater than its parts suggest. Created in the 1940s and popularized by the Rat Pack in the 1960s, it's a warming, complex sipper that can be enjoyed before or after dinner. Drambuie adds heather honey, herbs, and spice to the Scotch's natural smokiness, creating a drink that's stirred, never shaken, and always served over a generous ice cube.

Ingredients

0.75 oz Drambuie
1.5 oz Scotch Whisky

Instructions

  1. Fill a rocks glass with a large ice cube or cubed ice.
  2. Pour in Scotch whisky and Drambuie.
  3. Stir gently for 10–15 seconds to combine and chill.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist, expressing the oils over the surface before dropping it in.
