About

The Mezcal Negroni is a smoky, spirit-forward twist on the Italian classic that swaps gin for mezcal, lending the cocktail a rich layer of smoke and earthy agave complexity. Equal parts mezcal, sweet vermouth, and Campari are stirred together and served over ice, producing a drink that is bold, bittersweet, and deeply satisfying. The mezcal's smokiness plays beautifully against Campari's bitter orange notes and the sweet vermouth's herbal depth, making every sip feel like a sunset over Oaxaca. This variation gained enormous popularity alongside the mezcal boom of the 2010s and is now a staple at any bar serious about agave spirits.

Ingredients

1 oz Campari
1 oz Mezcal

Instructions

  1. Combine mezcal, sweet vermouth, and Campari in a mixing glass.
  2. Add ice and stir for 25–30 seconds until well chilled and diluted.
  3. Strain over a large ice cube in a rocks glass.
  4. Express an orange peel over the surface to release the oils, then place it in the glass as garnish.
