The Haberdasher is one of Difford's Guide's most inventive bourbon cocktails — a decadent after-dinner drink that layers chocolate bourbon with the medicinal bite of Fernet-Branca and a Green Chartreuse cream float on top. Crème de cacao gives the bourbon a luxurious chocolate richness, Fernet-Branca cuts through with herbal fire, and the Chartreuse cream head adds a final flourish of complex alpine herbs. It's served by drinking through the cream layer — the botanicals of the Chartreuse hit first, followed by the warming bourbon chocolate, then the medicinal Fernet on the finish. Ambitious, unusual, and absolutely delicious.

Ingredients

0.25 oz Fernet-Branca

Instructions

  1. Combine bourbon, crème de cacao, and Fernet-Branca in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake for 10-12 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass or rocks glass over ice.
  4. Whip the heavy cream very lightly until just barely thickened (not stiff).
  5. Mix the Green Chartreuse into the lightly whipped cream.
  6. Float the Chartreuse cream over the back of a bar spoon on top of the drink.
  7. Serve immediately — drink through the cream layer.
