About

The Smoky Robinson plays on the Penicillin template — that beloved cocktail innovation of whiskey, honey, lemon, and a smoky Islay scotch float — but swaps scotch for bourbon as the primary spirit, adds sweet vermouth for depth, and incorporates an Islay scotch rinse or float for the signature campfire smokiness. The result is a cocktail with bourbon's warmth and sweetness as its foundation but a haunting peat smoke on the finish that lingers pleasantly. It's a crowd-pleaser for whiskey drinkers who want complexity without the full commitment of an all-Islay drink.

Ingredients

0.5 oz Lemon Juice
0.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
0.5 oz Honey Syrup

Instructions

  1. Combine bourbon, sweet vermouth, honey syrup, and lemon juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 10-12 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over a large ice cube.
  4. Float Islay scotch whisky over the back of a spoon on top of the drink.
  5. Garnish with a lemon twist or piece of candied ginger.
