About

The Singapore Sling is one of the world's most celebrated tropical cocktails, created around 1915 by Chinese-born bartender Ngiam Tong Boon at the legendary Long Bar of Raffles Hotel in Singapore — a place so synonymous with colonial-era glamour that guests from Somerset Maugham to Ava Gardner passed through its doors. Born as a gin sling dressed for the tropics, it combines London Dry gin with cherry brandy, Bénédictine, Cointreau, pineapple juice, fresh lime, grenadine, and a dash of Angostura — a complex, fruit-forward cocktail that's simultaneously refreshing and spirituous. Its vivid pink-red hue is as striking as its layered flavor profile: sweet cherry, herbal depth from the Bénédictine, bright citrus, and a lingering juniper backbone. It jumped 20 places to #17 on Difford's Guide's 2025 global top 100, proof that a great origin story and impeccable balance never go out of style.

Ingredients

0.25 oz Grenadine
0.5 oz Lime Juice
0.5 oz Cherry Brandy
1.5 oz Dry Gin
1 piece(s) Maraschino Cherry
0.25 oz Cointreau
1 slice Pineapple Slice

Instructions

  1. Pre-chill a highball or sling glass, and prepare your garnish by threading a pineapple slice and maraschino cherry onto a cocktail pick.
  2. Combine the gin, cherry brandy, Bénédictine, Cointreau, pineapple juice, lime juice, grenadine, and Angostura bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  3. Shake well for 12–15 seconds until the shaker is frosty and the drink is thoroughly chilled.
  4. Fill the prepared glass with fresh ice, then strain the cocktail over the ice.
  5. Garnish with the pineapple and cherry pick and serve with a straw.
