About

Milk Punch is the quintessential New Orleans brunch cocktail — bourbon stirred with whole milk, a touch of simple syrup, and a whisper of vanilla, served over ice and dusted with fresh nutmeg. Deceptively simple and effortlessly crowd-pleasing, it's been a Southern tradition since the 18th century when Benjamin Franklin reportedly had his own recipe. Far smoother than any cocktail made with spirits has a right to be, the milk rounds out the bourbon's edges into something that drinks almost like a dessert while remaining perfectly balanced and not too sweet.

Ingredients

0.5 oz Simple Syrup
1 grated Nutmeg
4 oz Whole Milk

Instructions

  1. Combine bourbon, whole milk, simple syrup, and vanilla extract in a cocktail shaker or mixing glass with ice.
  2. Shake gently (not vigorously — you don't want too much foam) for 10 seconds.
  3. Strain into a rocks glass over fresh ice.
  4. Grate fresh nutmeg generously over the top.
  5. Serve immediately — the cold and the nutmeg are essential to the experience.
