About

The Fitzgerald was created by Dale DeGroff at New York's Rainbow Room and named after F. Scott Fitzgerald. It's a Gin Fix template made with bourbon — a whiskey sour with the critical addition of Angostura bitters, which transforms it from a straightforward sweet-and-sour into something more complex, herbally bitter, and interesting. The bitters don't just season the drink; they change its fundamental character, the way a pinch of salt changes a dessert. Simple and elegant, the Fitzgerald is a cocktail that proves how far you can go with four quality ingredients.

Ingredients

0.75 oz Lemon Juice
0.5 oz Simple Syrup

Instructions

  1. Combine bourbon, simple syrup, lemon juice, and Angostura bitters in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 10-12 seconds until well chilled.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with a lemon twist or wheel.
