About

The Chocolate Covered Biscotti Martini is a decadent, four-ingredient dessert cocktail that evokes the experience of biting into a chocolate-covered Italian biscotti — almond, chocolate, coffee, and vanilla layered together in a chilled martini glass. It combines Biscotti Liqueur, vanilla vodka, chocolate liqueur, and coffee liqueur — four distinctly complementary flavors that together reproduce the sensory experience of one of Italy's most beloved confections.

The Chocolate-Covered Biscotti Experience

Chocolate-covered biscotti are a staple of Italian pastry shops and gift boxes: the twice-baked almond biscuit, firm and nubbly, dipped in dark or milk chocolate to create a confection that is crunchy, sweet, bittersweet, and nutty all at once. Dunked in espresso (as is traditional with plain biscotti), the chocolate-covered version produces an extraordinary flavor experience where the dark coffee amplifies the bitter notes of the chocolate and the sweet almond of the biscotti simultaneously. The Chocolate Covered Biscotti Martini recreates this experience in cocktail form: the biscotti liqueur provides the almond-pastry character; the chocolate liqueur provides the chocolate dip; the coffee liqueur provides the espresso-dunking dimension; and the vanilla vodka provides a clean spirit base while amplifying the vanilla-caramel notes that appear throughout the other three ingredients. It is a cocktail built on the synergy of its components rather than the prominence of any single one. See the full Biscotti Liqueur collection. The recipe was developed by BB Mixology and featured on BB Mixology's cocktail collection. Liquor.com's espresso martini variations provides context for coffee liqueur in dessert martinis.

Coffee Liqueur Selection

Coffee liqueur choice significantly affects the character of this cocktail. Kahlua — the most widely available coffee liqueur — is sweeter and has a mild, smooth coffee character that integrates easily. Mr. Black Cold Brew Coffee Liqueur is more intensely coffee-forward and less sweet, producing a cocktail that more authentically replicates the bitter espresso dimension of the biscotti-dunking experience. Tia Maria is a middle ground — moderately coffee-forward with a vanilla and rum character that complements both the biscotti and vanilla vodka. The cocktail also connects to the Biscotti Manhattan and the Old Fashioned in its celebration of depth and layered flavor.

How to Make and Serve

Combine all four ingredients in a shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 12–15 seconds. Double-strain through a fine mesh strainer into a chilled martini glass. The double strain removes ice chips and ensures a smooth, glossy surface. Garnish with a chocolate-covered biscotti balanced on the rim or a light dusting of cocoa powder. See MixDrinkEnjoy's cocktail techniques guide for shaking and straining technique. The Haystack Cocktail and Preakness Cocktail are stirred alternatives for those who prefer spirit-forward complexity without sweetness.
