Three Dots and a Dash is a WWII-era tiki treasure created by Donn Beach (Don the Beachcomber), named after the Morse code signal for 'V' — for victory. Built on aged rhum agricole with citrus, honey, and a hint of allspice dram, it's one of the most complex and rewarding drinks in the tiki canon. Traditionally garnished with three cherries and a pineapple chunk to represent the dots and dash, it's both a visual showpiece and a masterfully layered cocktail experience.
Ingredients
0.5 oz Orange Juice
0.75 oz Lime Juice
1 dash Angostura Bitters
0.5 oz Falernum
0.25 oz Honey Syrup
0.25 oz Allspice Dram
1.5 oz Rhum Agricole
Instructions
- Combine rhum agricole, falernum, allspice dram, angostura bitters, lime juice, orange juice, and honey syrup in a cocktail shaker with ice.
- Shake vigorously for 10–12 seconds.
- Strain into a tall glass or tiki mug over crushed ice.
- Garnish with three Maraschino cherries and a pineapple chunk on a pick to represent the three dots and a dash.
