About

The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club cocktail is a refined, spirit-forward classic from the golden age of Caribbean cocktails, created at the eponymous yacht club in Bermuda and popularized by Charles H. Baker Jr. in his 1939 book 'The Gentleman's Companion.' It is a sophisticated, nuanced drink: dark or spiced rum is shaken with fresh lime juice, falernum — Bermuda's signature spiced-almond-and-lime liqueur — and a touch of Cointreau for orange brightness and body. The result is complex and beautifully balanced, with almond-lime sweetness from the falernum, clean citrus tartness, and the warm depth of aged rum. It is the cocktail equivalent of a sailing club at sunset — elegant, unhurried, and quietly exceptional.

Ingredients

2 oz Spiced Rum
0.75 oz Lime Juice
0.5 oz Falernum
0.25 oz Cointreau

Instructions

  1. Combine spiced rum, lime juice, falernum, and Cointreau in a cocktail shaker.
  2. Fill with ice and shake vigorously for 10–15 seconds.
  3. Double-strain into a chilled coupe glass.
  4. Garnish with a lime wheel or an expressed lime peel.
