About

The Monkey Gland is a vivid, early 20th-century classic created by Harry MacElhone at Harry's New York Bar in Paris during the 1920s. Named after a sensational — and medically dubious — rejuvenation procedure of the era, this gin, orange juice, grenadine, and absinthe cocktail is far more appealing than its name suggests: bright, fruity, and with a seductive herbal undercurrent from the absinthe.

Ingredients

0.5 oz Grenadine
1.5 oz Orange Juice
1.5 oz Gin
1 dash Absinthe

Instructions

  1. Add the gin, orange juice, grenadine, and absinthe to a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  2. Shake vigorously for 15 seconds.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with an orange twist.
