Enrico Palazzo

About

Named after the hilariously incompetent fictional opera singer played by Leslie Nielsen in The Naked Gun, the Enrico Palazzo is a bittersweet Manhattan riff from Difford's Guide that combines bourbon with sweet vermouth, Aperol, Suze, and grapefruit bitters into something that sounds complicated but drinks with surprising elegance. Aperol's orange bitterness and Suze's gentian-root intensity give the vermouth-and-bourbon base a layered, aperitivo-style complexity that makes it excellent before dinner. It's the kind of cocktail that sounds like it won't work until you try it.

Ingredients

0.75 oz Sweet Vermouth
0.25 oz Suze

Instructions

  1. Combine bourbon, sweet vermouth, Aperol, Suze, and grapefruit bitters in a mixing glass filled with ice.
  2. Stir for 30 seconds until well chilled and diluted.
  3. Strain into a chilled coupe or cocktail glass.
  4. Garnish with a grapefruit twist, expressing the oils over the surface before placing it on the rim.
