A buck is one of cocktail history's most elegant templates — spirit, citrus, ginger beer — and the Bourbon Buck is arguably the finest expression of the format before strawberry entered the picture (see: Kentucky Buck). Warm bourbon meets the sharp brightness of fresh lime juice and the fiery effervescence of ginger beer in a combination that's simultaneously refreshing and complex. It's the kind of drink that's easier to make than to explain — two-minute assembly, highball glass, done — but the result tastes like something that took considerably more thought.
Instructions
- Fill a highball glass or copper mug with ice.
- Add bourbon and fresh lime juice.
- Top with ginger beer and stir gently once to combine.
- Add Angostura bitters as a float on top if desired.
- Garnish with a lime wedge and a candied ginger piece on the rim.
