About

The Blue Margarita is a vivid, electric-blue riff on the classic Margarita that swaps triple sec for Blue Curaçao, transforming the beloved tequila sour into one of the most visually striking cocktails behind any bar. The result is a bright citrus cocktail with the same tangy lime backbone and tequila warmth you expect from a Margarita, accented by the sweet orange notes of the Blue Curaçao and a stunning cobalt hue. Served on the rocks in a salt-rimmed glass, it is equally at home at a beach bar in Mexico or a backyard summer party. The Blue Margarita became popular in the 1980s and 1990s as bartenders embraced Blue Curaçao for its visual impact, and it remains one of the most ordered tequila cocktails at venues that serve it.

Ingredients

1 oz Lime Juice
1 wedge Lime

Instructions

  1. Run a lime wedge around the rim of a margarita or rocks glass, then dip it in coarse salt to create a salt rim.
  2. Fill the glass with fresh ice and set aside.
  3. Combine tequila, Blue Curaçao, and fresh lime juice in a cocktail shaker filled with ice.
  4. Shake vigorously for about 15 seconds until well chilled.
  5. Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  6. Garnish with a lime wedge and serve immediately.
